Integrated Methodology for Physical and Economic Assessment of Coastal Interventions Impacts

چکیده

Due to economic, environmental, and social interest of coastal areas, together with their erosion problems, different management strategies can be considered, physical (shoreline evolution) economic (net present value, ratio benefit-cost, break-even point) consequences impacts. Therefore, this work presents an integrated methodology that aims compare discuss the most promising intervention scenarios mitigate problems climate change effects, considering costs benefits related each intervention. The proposed takes a step forward in assessing mitigation strategies, incorporating three well-defined sequential stages: shoreline evolution medium-term perspective; structures pre-design; cost-benefit assessment. To show relevance methodology, hypothetic case study several were assessed. In order costal two situations analyzed: reference scenario scenarios. 34 evaluated verified. Depending on parameter considered (reduce protect full extension urban waterfronts, improve performance by increasing net benefit-cost or decreasing time), best results are obtained for definition option is complex depends main goal defined conclusion, analysis demanded it allows choosing better options future interventions, helping decision-making processes management.

An Integrated Methodology for Assessment and Mapping of Land Degradation Risk in Markazi Province, Iran

Desertification is recognized as a serious environmental threat in Iran because of its climatic-geomorphologicconditions. Desertification and land degradation in arid, semi-arid, and dry sub-humid regions, is a globalenvironmental problem. Accurate assessment of the status and trend of desertification is instrumental in developingglobal strategies to prevent and reverse this problem. The goal o...

Physical and Economic Impacts of Sea-Level Rise and Low Probability Flooding Events on Coastal Communities

Conventionally flood mapping typically includes only a static water level (e.g. peak of a storm tide) in coastal flood inundation events. Additional factors become increasingly important when increased water-level thresholds are met during the combination of a storm tide and increased mean sea level. This research incorporates factors such as wave overtopping and river flow in a range of flood ...

Physical Methodology for Economic Systems Modeling

The paper discusses the possibility of constructing economic models using the methodology of model construction in classical mechanics. At the same time, unlike the “econophysical” approach, the properties of economic models are derived without involvement of any equivalent physical properties, but with account of the types of symmetry existing in the economic system. It has been shown that at ...
